The entire recovery process relies on washing away sticky clay and processing massive tonnages of sand using physical gravity separation.

The Placer Gold Gravity Separation Flowsheet

Our engineering design focuses on breaking up thick clay balls (which trap gold) and rapidly discarding barren gravel to concentrate the heavy black sand where the gold hides.

Stage 1: Pre-Treatment (Washing & Desliming)

  • Feeding: Raw river sand and gravel are loaded via excavator or loader into a hopper. A Vibrating Feeder or Belt Conveyor evenly transports the ore into the wash plant.
  • Scrubbing & Screening: The material enters a heavy-duty Rotary Scrubber or Trommel Screen (10-300 t/h capacity). High-pressure water jets break apart sticky clay balls and wash the gold-bearing sand into the collection launder, while barren, oversized boulders and roots are immediately discharged out the back.

Stage 2: Gravity Roughing (The Core Stage)

The washed heavy sand is routed to gravity separators based on the particle size of the gold:

  • Mineral Jiggers: Best for recovering coarse-grained gold (>0.5mm). Jigs process massive tonnages continuously, making them ideal for medium and large-scale alluvial mines.
  • Centrifugal Concentrators: The ultimate machine for capturing fine and microscopic flake gold (0.02mm - 1mm) using high-G forces.
  • Sluice Boxes / Drum Chutes: A highly economical, low-investment option with zero power requirements, perfect for small-scale operations or as a primary scavenger.

Stage 3: Selection & Purification

The rough heavy sand concentrate produced by the Jigs or Centrifuges is passed over 6-S Shaking Tables. The table provides unparalleled visual sorting precision, cleanly separating the pure gold dust from the remaining black sand (magnetite/ilmenite).

Stage 4: Tailings & Water Management

To ensure environmentally friendly production, the muddy tailings water is pumped into a Thickener to increase the concentration of the solids (60%-70%). The thickened mud is squeezed dry by a Filter Press (<15% water content), while the clean overflow water is recycled back into the Trommel Scrubber.

A: In river deposits, gold particles are often trapped inside dense, sticky clay balls. If you simply run this clay over a sluice box or jig, the clay balls will roll right off the end into the tailings, carrying your gold with them. A heavy-duty Rotary Scrubber acts like a massive washing machine, violently tumbling the rocks and clay with high-pressure water to dissolve the mud and release the free gold into the processing circuit.
