Plate and Frame Filter Press for Slurry Dewatering

The Plate and Frame Filter Press is a heavy-duty, high-efficiency solid-liquid separation machine. As the ultimate mechanical dewatering equipment at the end of a mineral processing circuit, it takes the thick slurry generated by Thickeners and utilizes immense hydraulic pressure to squeeze the remaining water out of the mud.

This process produces hard, easily transportable "filter cakes" and clean, reusable water. In modern mining, the Tailings Filter Press is essential for creating "dry-stack tailings," which eliminates the need for dangerous and environmentally risky wet tailing dams.

Beyond mining, this equipment is highly adaptable for processing viscous, fine materials in sand and gravel washing plants, chemical wastewater treatment, and metallurgical concentrate dewatering.

Equipment Structure & Advantages

Core Components

  • Main Frame: Heavy-duty steel support frame, thrust plate, and compression plate assembly.
  • Hydraulic Drive: Industrial hydraulic station and cylinder block for immense squeezing force.
  • Control System: Centralized electric control box and automated mechanical plate puller.

Product Advantages

  • Highly effective on viscous, ultra-fine mud and clay.
  • Modular filtering area; filter plates can be added or removed to match capacity.
  • Small physical footprint compared to the massive volume of water it recovers.

How the Filter Press Operates

The machine operates in a cyclical batch process (Press, Fill, Squeeze, Release).

  1. Pressing Stage: The hydraulic cylinder pushes the heavy moving plate forward, tightly squeezing the entire row of cloth-lined filter plates together to form sealed, hollow chambers.
  2. Feed Filtration: A high-pressure slurry pump forces the liquid mud into the hollow chambers. The liquid is forced through the microscopic pores of the filter cloth and drains out of the machine as clear water. The solid dirt cannot pass through the cloth and fills the chamber.
  3. Unloading & Loosening: Once the chambers are packed solid with dirt (and the water stops draining), the feed pump is turned off. The hydraulic system retracts, releasing the pressure on the plates.
  4. Cake Discharge: The automatic plate puller separates the filter plates one by one. The dry, solid "filter cakes" fall out from between the plates onto a conveyor belt below for disposal or transport.

Technical Parameters

Note: The actual model selection must be determined based on your material's viscosity, daily processing capacity, and desired cake moisture. Please consult our engineering team for a custom configuration.

Technical Item Parameter Range
Applicable Feed Concentration ≤ 10% Suspension (Usually pre-thickened)
Standard Working Feed Pressure 0.3 - 1.5 MPa
Maximum Hydraulic Squeeze Pressure ≥ 3 MPa
Number of Filter Chambers 20 to 120 chambers (Customizable depending on model capacity)

Maintenance & Operational FAQ

Q1: What are the main operational precautions for a filter press?

A: The most critical rule is to never apply hydraulic squeeze pressure if the chambers are empty, as this will warp or crack the expensive filter plates. Secondly, always control your feed pressure; do not exceed the rated pressure of the slurry pump. Finally, ensure the sealing edges of the plates are cleaned of any residual dirt before pressing them back together, or the machine will spray mud during the next cycle.

Q2: How often do I need to maintain the hydraulics and filter cloths?

A: Check the hydraulic oil level and pressure daily. The hydraulic oil should be completely changed quarterly. The fabric filter cloths should be thoroughly cleaned (usually with a high-pressure power washer) on a monthly basis, or more frequently if the material is incredibly sticky and blinds the pores.
