How a 6-S Shaking Table Works

The separation process is driven by the combined action of three forces on the inclined, riffled deck:

1. Asymmetric Reciprocating Motion: The transmission head creates an asymmetric movement—the deck moves forward slowly and snaps back quickly. This inertial force drives heavy particles forward along the riffles.
2. Gravity Stratification: In the grooves (riffles) of the deck, the heavy minerals (like gold or tin) sink to the bottom, while the lighter minerals (like quartz sand) are pushed to the top of the material bed.
3. Cross-Flow Water Washing: A thin film of wash water flows laterally across the tilted deck. The water washes the lighter, top-layer minerals downhill over the riffles into the tailings launder.
4. Discharge: Because of these forces, the heavy minerals move longitudinally to the concentrate end, while light minerals are washed laterally into the tailings, creating a perfect fan-shaped separation.
