Dry Multi-Roller High Intensity Permanent Magnetic Separator

The Dry Magnetic Roller Separator (widely known in the industry as a Rare Earth Roll Magnetic Separator) is a highly efficient, multi-stage dry magnetic sorting machine. By utilizing an advanced series of permanent magnet rolls, it creates a cascading, gradient magnetic field designed specifically for the separation and purification of minerals with varying magnetic susceptibilities.

Constructed with ultra-powerful Neodymium (NdFeB) rare-earth magnets, the surface magnetic field strength can reach up to 1.6 Tesla (16,000 Gauss) without the high energy consumption of electromagnetic coils. This makes it the core dry-processing equipment for concentrating heavy minerals like Ilmenite, Hematite, Manganese ore, Chromite, and Monazite.

With an optimal processing feed size ranging from 0.1mm to 5mm, this multi-stage High Intensity Magnetic Separator is also highly effective for removing trace iron contaminants from non-metallic minerals, ensuring high-purity glass-grade silica sand and quartz.

Core System Configurations

Custom Engineering Available: The number of cascading rollers (2 to 5 rollers) and the specific magnetic field strength of each roller can be fully customized based on your mineralogy. Contact our engineers for a custom flow-sheet and quotation.

System Component Technical Characteristics
Magnetic System (The Rollers) Utilizes high-grade Neodymium (NdFeB) permanent magnets (Hcj≥1114kA/m). Configured with 2 to 5 rollers in series to create a gradient magnetic field.
Magnetic Field Gradient 1st Roller (Weak): 0.08 - 0.12 Tesla (800 - 1,200 Gauss)
2nd Roller (Medium): 0.5 - 0.9 Tesla (5,000 - 9,000 Gauss)
3rd Roller (Strong): 1.2 - 1.4 Tesla (12,000 - 14,000 Gauss)
Ore Feeding Device Equipped with a vibrating feeder and an initial electromagnetic iron remover to extract scrap iron, ensuring a uniform, thin monolayer of ore hits the first roll.
Sorting Rollers Rollers are coated with non-magnetic stainless steel with a high surface hardness (HRC≥55) to withstand the abrasion of continuous dry sand flow.
Product Separation Features an adjustable mechanical diverting device (splitter plate) beneath each roll with a precision of ±2mm to perfectly slice the mineral stream.
De-Dusting System Equipped with a pulse bag de-dusting system to control airborne silica and dust (efficiency ≥99%), ensuring a safe, environmentally compliant operation.

How a Rare Earth Roll Magnetic Separator Works

The machine uses a cascading, multi-stage process to extract minerals of different magnetic susceptibilities as they drop from roll to roll.

  1. Stage 1 (Strong Magnetics): Completely dry ore is fed evenly onto the first roller. Because the first roller has a low magnetic intensity, it only attracts and extracts strongly magnetic minerals (like Magnetite). Non-magnetic and weakly magnetic minerals fall off the roll onto the next stage.
  2. Stage 2 (Medium Magnetics): The remaining material falls onto the second roller, which has a higher magnetic intensity. This roll attracts medium-magnetic minerals (like Ilmenite).
  3. Stage 3+ (Weak Magnetics): The material continues cascading to the 3rd (and 4th/5th) rollers. These rollers have massive magnetic intensities (up to 14,000 Gauss). They pull out weakly magnetic minerals (like Garnet, Monazite, or Hematite).
  4. Non-Magnetic Discharge: The final product that successfully passes over all rollers without being attracted (e.g., Zircon or pure Quartz sand) drops into the final non-magnetic tailings chute.

Operation & Safety Specifications

Start-Up Flow:

  • Always start the pulse bag dust removal system first.
  • Run the machine under no-load (empty) conditions for 5 minutes to verify belt tracking and motor stability.
  • Turn on the vibrating feeder, gradually increasing the feed volume to the rated capacity.
  • Fine-tune the adjustable splitter plates beneath the rolls according to visual product purity.

Crucial Safety Precautions:

  • Danger: Never store or carry iron tools (wrenches, hammers, steel-toed boots) within 1 meter of the magnetic rollers. The NdFeB magnets are permanently active and incredibly powerful.
  • After shutting down the machine, wait until the rollers have come to a complete, static stop before opening access doors for maintenance.
  • Regularly check the integrity of the protective covers and Kevlar conveyor belts.
